In most phpBB installations, all of a forum's avatars are stored in an images/avatars/ subdirectory of the forum, which is just fine for normal boards. But in some cases, the gallery avatars need to be stored outside of the usual location. Maybe multiple boards on the same server are going to share an avatar gallery or an existing site structure cannot be changed. Avatar Gallery Outside phpBB was designed to make this type of avatar storage possible.
