Do Not Bump 2.0.0
Has your community been beset by that most annoying of spammers, the Masked Bumber? You've probably seen them - they post a topic asking some question, and then less than half hour later make a reply that says only "BUMP!" Worse still, some of these craft creatures put out even more "BUMP!" posts before the night is over. These eyesore posts waste space in your database and, in large numbers, can slow your forum down.
Do Not Bump is designed to help lower the abilities of the "Masked Bumber" by stopping some bumping posts from being created. When a user tries to post in a topic, the following criteria are checked:
- Did this user start the thread?
- Did this user make the last post in this thread?
- Is bumping allowed in this forum?
- Was that post made less than 48 hours ago? (This time can be reconfigured)
- Is this user NOT a guest user, an administrator, or a moderator of this specific forum?
If the answer to all of these questions is "yes," then Do Not Bump intercedes and prevents the reply from being posted. The user is asked to edit their last post instead of bumping the thread.
Do Not Bump was originally designed for the phpBBHacks.com Support Forums.
Features
- Helps prevent unnecessary topic bumping.
- Message displayed can be edited in lang_main.php.
- Each individual forum may allow or disallow bumping.
- Amount of time to wait before allowing bumps is configurable for each forum.
- Bump prevention does not apply to guests, admins, or moderators (in forums that they moderate).
Additional Notes
- Tested only on this phpBB version. May have unpredictable results on other versions.
