Is there a way without doing that real long mod, to make supermod group members different than moderators, meaning the system recognizes them all as moderators andthe only difference is the permissions I give them. I want the system to recognize them as smods? Can that be done? Easily?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking for here. Do you just want certain moderators to be called "super mods" on the site, regardless of what permissions they have? If so, this hack might be an option:

You'd have to see if the names included can be edited, though.

no I want Super mods to be a seperate category in the code than moderators so I can affect specific changes towards them and not just moderators in general. I have looked at that hack you linked up there but I would need to change the names. Is that difficult? THanks

From a brief glance at the hack, the names appear stored in the language files so changing them should just be a matter of editing a few lines in lang_main.php and lang_admin.php.

I hate to say it, but the best way to get that result might be to install one of those long mods you wanted to avoid. Things like that usually take a lot of code modifications, and those mods probably cover most of them.
